WHAT IS ISRAELI SALAD?
Israeli Salad is a fresh and lively dish that comes from Israel. People also call it “Salat Yerushalmi” or “Arabic Salad.” It’s really popular in Middle Eastern cooking because it’s easy, crispy, and super tasty. The salad usually has chopped cucumbers, ripe tomatoes, bell peppers, and red onions, all cut into small pieces. When you put all these fresh veggies together, you get a burst of colors and textures. To make it even more delicious, they add tangy lemon juice, extra-virgin olive oil, a little salt, and black pepper. Sometimes, they throw in some chopped parsley or mint leaves for a nice fresh taste.
Israeli Salad isn’t just yummy; it’s also a healthy choice since it’s full of vitamins and nutrients. You can serve it as a cool side dish or eat it as a standalone salad. It’s a favorite for lots of people and goes well with all kinds of meals.
SALAD INGREDIENTS
This salad can complement any kind of dish or be used with various toppings. Just combine all the ingredients below and enjoy.
- Cucumbers – Cucumbers will definitely bring a crunchy texture to the salad! We using English cucumber, but any cucumber will work for this recipe.
- Tomatoes – Tomatoes will bring a lot of juiciness to the salad. Feel free to use tomatoes of your choice; we used vine tomatoes
- Bell Peppers – Bell peppers add a sweet and crisp flavor to the salad. They come in various colours, but we chose a red peppers.
- Red Onion – Red onions will give mild spiciness to the salad.
- Lemons – Lemon provides citrusy note to the salad!
- Fresh Parsley: Fresh parsley adds a herbaceous flavor to the salad. While originally it comes with mint, we prefer it without.
- Salt and pepper – adjust to your taste.
ISRAELI SALAD
Ingredients
- 1 wholegood large cucumber, diced
- 2 medium tomatoes, diced
- 1 bell pepper, diced, any color
- 1/2 red onion, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
- 1 lemon, juice
- 2 tbsp olive oil, extra virgin
- salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- In the large bowl combine the diced cucumber, tomatoes, red bell pepper, red onion and fresh parsley.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the lemon juice and extra-virgin olive oil. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Pour dressing over the salad ingredients and gently toss to coat the vegetables evenly with the dressing.
Notes
- Enjoy the salad on the same day it’s made for the best texture and taste. Although it can be refrigerated for a short period, the true delight lies in the freshness of its vegetables.
